Promoting the composting of biowaste at the household level, especially for places without a separate organic waste collection system.

  • Our goal:  create awareness about the value of organic waste and inspire individuals to create their nature-based solutions.
  • More information: a 2-meter circular raised garden with a keyhole-shaped indentation that allows individuals to add vegetable scraps in the center of the bed.
  • Benefits: it can be used in dry lands, nutrients are kept in the cycle and reused for growing vegetables.

“The Keyhole Garden is for us a way of raising awareness about organic waste management’s importance and inspiring others to rethink waste and start their local projects.

Organic waste has a huge potential for different processes. The nutrients can be reintroduced into the value chain as compost, biofuel, and/or animal through the efficient collection and revalorization processes, and thus creating a circular system with minimal waste. This circularity supports each of the three sustainability pillars: environment, economic, and social.

The keyhole garden is a simple way to use organic waste – this project is adaptable to local conditions and can already be implemented with a small budget.”
